iii. Language at Work (incl. interview questions and answers)
iv. Covers that Communicate (incl. DVD cover)
3. Document use practice
i. Tables and Graphs (looks like a Math sheet), both sides

i. Analyzing 6 posters/advertisements for their effectiveness and the 5 variables, (use handout for posters at school, or chart on wiki page “SEPT. 6-7”, for posters at home)
ii. Essential Skills Profile for 3 jobs- chart that includes most important skills and 3 highest level oral communication skills (HRSDC website-google “Essential Skills Profiles”, to find it)
5. ROOM-Read at least chapter 1 then…

ii. Double entry journal for chapter 1 or first 10-25 pages (first impressions)

Sept. 18
1. Responding to text practice: The Hockey Song. Come pick up the handout. This will be marked as it would be on a final English exam. See "Responding to Text" section in ROOM wiki page.
2. ROOM- READ some than complete the Third "double entry" response journal.
3. Lit Power: "Community Views" p. 47 See Lit Power wiki page for complete instructions. It includes a proper newspaper article. See "Newspaper Articles" wiki page for further information about headlines, the 5 W's, the lead, byline, the first paragraph, the body and how an article is written.

Sept. 19
1. Read Around the Text- worksheet. We did one practice one on a textbook and one assigned on the cover of ROOM. If you were not here, you can do any two book covers of your choice, but you need to pick up two sheets.
2. Newspapers- We analyzed the parts of a newspaper, the headlines, bylines, captions beneath pictures, the way an article is written with the 5W's in the lead paragraph, then the details filled in within the body of the article. See "Newspaper articles" wikipage for more details.
We did two sections of "Just the Facts" sheet on two news articles. If you were not here, you need to pick up the worksheet and do this at home with two news articles of your choice.

Go to the wiki page on the right titled "Letter to Editor" to find instructions and links to help you complete this major writing assignment.
